This work entitled The Sibyl’s Scrolls is actually an oracle, which will help you to roleplay solo, thanks to its ease of use. Although you can use it in any other game or setting you like, the book has been specially designed to complement the Black Sphynx collection, a series of works designed for solitaire role-playing. In each one of them you will be proposed a different adventure, full of challenges that will shape your story, with the help of this oracle, which will answer all your questions.

Thanks to its simple design, you don’t have to search for different oracles, depending on your question. On the contrary, all you have to do is ask a question and roll one 100-sided dice (1d100), for which two 10-sided dice (2d10) are usually used. Depending on the result, all you have to do is go to the appropriate page, where you will find the answer to the question you have asked. These questions can be of different kinds. The first and most important are questions that can only be answered with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. From there, you can ask any number of questions… What is happening in the city? Why are these people running away…?

Similarly, you can combine several questions to obtain much more elaborate and detailed answers, which will provide information to the story you are developing. Given the many options offered by this oracle, there are an infinite number of possible combinations.

On the other hand, in addition to words divided into categories, each page also has an evocative image. If you want to use it, just roll 1d100 and visit the corresponding page. The image you find can give you ideas or inspiration to complete any description, situation or scene. As the player, it is up to you to make sense of it within the narrative you are creating.

As a sample of all that has been explained, let’s look at some examples. Firstly, imagine that in your adventure you come across a woman (59 as a result of rolling in the ‘Random encounter’ category) and you decide to create her character from zero using this oracle. To do that, you roll 1d100 to find out her ‘Female name’ and roll a 17, so you discover that her name is ‘Ariala’. You then wish to establish her ‘Inclination’ towards you, so you roll the dice again. This time you roll a 34, which tells you that she is a ‘Friendly’ character. To find out her ‘Physical description’, you roll again and get a 98, which tells you that she is a ‘Redhead’. Wanting to know more about her, you roll again in the same category and the result is a 48, which tells you that she has ‘Pale skin’.

With all this information, you want to know her ‘Occupation’ and roll again. A 23 as a result tells you that she is a ‘Historian’. This fact, coupled with her friendly bent, opens up the possibility of asking her questions about the past of the world you are adventuring in. So you decide to pose a question to which the answer is either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. So you ask her if the city you are heading towards was once under the control of your enemies. You then roll the dice and roll a 91, which tells you that her answer is ‘Yes, and also…’. So it is your turn to complete the information, and you add that not only the city was once under the rule of your rivals, but that they still hold sway over certain powerful families. As a result, you now know that the city is still a very dangerous place for you, and you must take extra precautions when you arrive at your destination.
